This is one of our favorite landscapes. When we first met the owner, the owner had given up watering her huge - and boring -
expanse of lawn. Her sprinkler system was no longer functional and she wanted to replace the lawn with something that could
be watered by hand - very infrequently . After amending the soil, installing some huge flat boulders and a wandering flagstone
path, we filled the yard with xeric plants that bloomed throughout the season. The result is stunning!

She does, in fact, water by hand about once or twice a month, and her maintenance, with the exception of spring and fall
cleanups, takes her a couple of hours a month. This photo was taken in the late summer of 2003; the landscape was installed in
the summer of 1999.

As you can see, these kinds of plants bloom the first season, and fill
in rapidly
