What can you do with a shady backyard after the kids have grown up and moved on?
This couple loves to entertain. By replacing their large, flat lawn area with stone patios they've created the perfect environment for parties of any size as well as for relaxing during hot afternoons and evenings. |

The final touch: a great Japanese-style bridge spanning the creek and leading to a small lawn area where the grandchildren play.

The multiple deck levels provide enough area for large parties and yet allow for more intimate groupings. The lowest level is a great spot to sit and enjoy the natural stream that cuts through the yard.
The small planting areas soften the hardscape, provide color all season and can be watered efficiently with a drip irrigation system. |

Turn Your Back Yard into an Entertainment Area
|
|
Franci, one of the original owners of Xeriscape Design and designer of the above landscape, fell in love with the idea of having multiple levels of stone patios for entertaining - not to mention the small amount of water and maintenance required. So she tore out her own back yard and replaced it with comfortable, inviting entertainment areas. Her cats and her dinner guests are enjoying the transformation as much as she is! |
