Household Water Use: Where Does All That Water Go?
|
|
This graph shows just where all of our water goes - and the largest portion goes onto our lawns! The average Kentucky
bluegrass lawn takes 18 gallons of water per square foot each season to keep it looking attractive. The same yard planted with water-efficient (xeric) plants will use only 3 gallons of water per square foot. Just by replacing part of your lawn with xeric plants and hardscape, you can reduce your water consumption significantly.
So if the only time you walk on parts of your lawn is when you mow it, consider other, more water- efficient alternatives for
those areas. |
