Even Your Park Strip Can Be Beautiful!
|
|
The owner of this home was thrilled when her parking strip was
transformed into a lush, colorful, easy-to-care-for garden.
This kind of a garden needs to be watered once every week or
two, depending on the time of year and can be done with a drip system or a well-tuned overhead spray system. |
|
This was a typical grass covered stip that required frequent watering
because of the steep slope. By replacing the grass with low xeric groundcovers and mulch, it can be watered infrequently. And it's a whole lot more interesting! |
|
Even in the winter your xeric parking strip can be beautiful. By waiting until
early spring to prune the shrubs, you can enjoy their colorful seed pods and interestiing structure throughout the winter. And of course, the rocks are beautiful all year long too. |

Ornamental grasses are perfect plants for your parking strip. They are a lovely
green in the spring and summer, turn amazing fall colors and then when it's time for the snow plow to cover them, you can cut them back to the ground. |
|
Using xeric plants on either side of your sidewalk, watered by a drip system,
not only eliminates the problem of 'watering the sidewalk' but also gives passers-by something interesting to enjoy on their walks. |
