This is Franci's yard. She spent years killing a bit of grass each
season and planting drought-tolerant plants. It never occurred to her
to simply remove the entire lawn at once. At this point, she was
removing the final part of the parking strip grass and yet another
piece of grass on the hill. It was slow progress toward an inevitable
goal.
A Typical Installation Process
In 1996, Franci and Lynne decided to start Xeriscape Design and use Franci's yard as a
model. They killed all the grass and tilled in tons of compost, one of the keys to success with
this kind of a landscape.
With Kim in charge, accent rocks
and a sandstone path were added
as part of the backbone of the
design.
The final steps were to plant (finally - the fun part!) and add the
top covering of mulch..
And then sit back and enjoy the late summer and fall beauty!
